Cataract Awareness Month
June 1 - June 30
A cataract is the clouding of the natural lens in the eye, the lens focuses light onto the retina which passes through the optic nerve and in turn is transmitted to the brain as an image. If the lens is cloudy from a cataract, the image we see is blurred. Symptoms include: cloudy or blurred vision, glare around lights, poor vision in low light and faded colours. If you already wear glasses it may seem as though the lenses are constantly dirty or misty. Cataracts make it particularly difficult to see when driving or reading, especially in poor lighting.
